EPISODE 20: Bunions, Breakdowns, and Breakthroughs
In this episode, I share a personal story about one of those weeks where everything seemed to go wrong—car troubles, stomach bugs, a noisy dryer, and yes, even bunions. It felt like the universe was throwing one challenge after another my way, but instead of letting it get me down, I shifted my mindset and turned it into a learning experience.
I walk through the series of unfortunate events that tested my patience and energy, especially as we’re in the process of getting our house ready to sell. But amidst the chaos, I found an opportunity to rest, reflect, and reset. My body was telling me to slow down, and I finally listened. This led to a breakthrough moment where I realized that everything was happening for me, not to me. By changing my perspective, I took back control and found peace even in the midst of the mess.
Throughout the episode, I dive into the power of perspective—how choosing to see obstacles as opportunities for growth can shift your entire experience. I share how I’ve learned to live consciously, step back, and observe situations with a glass-half-full mindset. Challenges will always come, but it’s up to us to decide how we label and handle them.

Hi Julie, thanks for sharing your story and your struggles. I do like the phrase the you said, “everything is happening for you… not to you”. Your story reminds me so much of a scripture that I love. Romans 8:28 says, ” And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose”.
Our Father really does have a purpose in everything that He allows us to go through. And it is all for our good according to His wonderful purpose for us”. Knowing that… I’m learning to give thanks because I know God is paying special attention to me and growing me. Just as He was paying special attention to you.
I was smiling along with you picturing your husband trying to get in your daughter’s car through the window. You’ll probably smile over that many times as it comes back to your mind. You are a treasure Julie. I so enjoy reading your emails. Bye for now. Judy❤️
Thank you for keeping live real
Julie I truly believe that God is speaking through you. My 95 Mom passed away last night andI wasn’t there with her although I had the opportunity to drive the three hour drive to get there. I was absolutely in an emotional whirlwind that I couldn’t sort out before she passed . You see my Mom was a very abusive, negative person and my two younger sisters have followed suit, mean spirited, self centered and judgmental. Although years of therapy helped heal me and has given me the strength to remove myself from a toxic situation, my Moms decline triggered all of the past. I prayed for God to lead me through this. His answer to me was, “Know that you loved and took care of her despite her inability to love you. Know that you avoided contact with a sister who was cruel and unkind. This allowed me to remember that I did my best despite the family dynamics to love them anyway but to also love myself. God led me to find my own peace through love and caring for others and to continue to declare my heart and home a place of peace .
